January 27th, 2019. NOT CONFIDENTIAL: THE WORLD SHOULD KNOW ABOUT WHAT YOU DO.
Dear Lindsey Childress-Beatty,
I am asking you to stop trying to defend the indefensible:
Interim Ethics Director
American Psychologists Association
750 First St. NE Washington DC 20002-4242
Dear Lindsey Childress-Beatty,
I am asking you to stop trying to defend the indefensible:
I want to start with being very direct. The APA is an organization that murders children and parents. This is not me making this statement but Dr. Daniels and the APA. In the APA’s June 14th letter to President Donald Trump. At the top of the 2nd page, 2nd paragraph of your letter you go into the separation of children and parents cause suicide. On Page 1, paragraph 3 the APA goes into “Decades of psychological research have determined that it is the best interest of the child and family to keep families together”. The APA backs this up with “Empirical evidence of the psychological harm that children and parents go through when separated”.
I am not, nor have I ever asked you to re-open the case against Dr. Michael up until now.
I have always focused my questions directly at you and the APA’s ethics department. Your lack of ethical practices and the way you flagrantly mock your own code of ethics, directly result in the death of children and parents. ‘APA’s statement, June 14th, 2018 letter’
Your code of ethics directly states:
I am done playing games with you and your organization. Do you really think you can lie and change the facts of this case? Please remember I have copies of your letters where you state “Initially, your letter was placed on hold given you had indicated I had filed a complaint with the state licensing board” (July 20th 2018). Where did it state that on my initial complaint? That was unethical, corrupt and was the definition of collusion. (FYI, None of the NC board had the depth or competence in attachment-based trauma to be able to judge Dr. Michaels. All were friends of his. You also stated in that letter, “Once we received information that the state voted to dismiss the complaint finding no probable cause” at that point and only at that point was the information independently reviewed. THAT STATEMENT IS FRAUD and unethical. You stated in that sentence that you did not independently review my case because you based it on friends of his that were biased and were not experts in attachment-based trauma and actually said “Once we received information that the state voted to dismiss the complaint finding no probable cause”
5.2 Information Insufficient to Determine Cause for Action
5.2.1 Request for Supplementation of Complaint. If the information is not sufficient to determine whether a case should be opened, the Director may so inform the complainant, who will be given 30 days from receipt of the request to supplement the complaint. The Chair and Director may additionally, or in the alternative, commence a preliminary investigation under Subsection 5.3 of this part.
Nowhere in your dismissal of my complaint did you give me to opportunity to present more information nor did you acknowledge 5.2.1. That was unethical of the APA ethics committee.
It is now a matter of following the code of ethics that you are supposed to follow:
6. Reopening a Closed Investigation
If significant new evidence of unethical conduct comes to the attention of the Committee after a matter has been closed, the investigation may be reopened and acted upon under regular procedures. If, in the judgment of the Director, such information is furnished, the new evidence shall be submitted to the Committee, which may reopen the investigation if it agrees that the criteria listed below are satisfied. To be considered under this rule, new evidence must meet each of the following criteria:
6.2 The evidence could not with reasonable diligence have been brought to the attention of the Committee before the investigation was closed;
Now, at this point, I could only assume you should be in a quandary.
Either:
Please remember in my complaint there was this email and a demand for Dr. Michaels to sit in on the situation.
“Maybe we could have Kirt sit in on this one, rather than waiting until school is almost out.
Things are not getting better and I am worried that this hatred (that has been going on for over 6 months)
will continue to manifest itself detrimentally. I believe the longer you allow her to harbor those feeling the
more ingrained they will become especially over the summer.
Thank you
In the 1-hour session with my under age daughter where Dr. Michaels sat in with Alex Kirk (At that time a student at ASU), This is where Dr. Michaels diagnosed my daughter and said it was parent child separation. Even after I argued with him, Dr. Michaels pulled out his psychologist card and promised me this was just parent child separation. Dr. Kurt Michaels did not do a family systems analysis or assessment.
Oh, by the way were you aware that Dr. Kurt Michaels talked to Alex Kurt and asked him to not have any communications with me? Also, Dr. Michaels instructed Alex Kirk to forward any communication I sent to Alex, to Dr. Kurt Michaels and the attorney for Appalachian State University?
At this point in my letter I would like to focus your attention to a term secondary injury:
The term "second injury" and "betrayal trauma" come from the book by trauma experts Courtois and Ford, "Treating Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders: Scientific Foundations and Therapeutic Models."
Second injury and betrayal trauma is when the trauma victim discloses their abuse, they are not believed by the mental health professionals who should respond and should protect them - a second injury and a betrayal of the victim by the mental health professional.
Here is the direct quote from Courtois and Ford is:
From Courtois & ford: "Another unfortunate reality concerning complex trauma is related to its interpersonal nature. The closer the relationship between the perpetrator(s) and the victim(s) and their group memberships (e.g., in a family, religion, gender, political party, institution, chain of command), the more likely they are to face conditions of divided loyalty. As a self-protective strategy, the group may coalesce around silencing, secrecy, and denial. As a result, victims do not receive the help they expect and need when teh vitimization is disclosed or otherwise exposed. This circumstances has been labeled the second jnjury (symnds, 1975) or betrayal trauma (DePrince & Freyd, 2007). A lack of response or protection - or victim blaming - is betrayal of the victim's trust and the helper's responsibility that can severely exacerbate traumatic victimization." (p. 18)
We can now add “Secondary injury” to what the APA ethics department adds to their list of acceptable behaviors from a psychologist.
Alex Kirks was a graduate student at Colorado University when he sent me his only response to any of my many attempts to speak with him about my children’s child abuse and the domestic violence:
Ken,
I understand you have been trying to reach me. Please understand that I have no association or ties with any past work from North Carolina, and thus am unable to speak with you regarding your inquiries. I ask that you cease further attempts to contact myself along with anyone else in my current department as they will also be unable to speak with you.
Best,
Alex
I find this highly ironic that a study by Dr. Jennifer Jill Harmon with Colorado University addressed the amount of people that were affected by this type of attachment trauma. While the 1st study was 22 million the 2nd study was 35 million.
And here we are at the end of this letter:
There is a book from Dr. Craig Childress called foundations. This book goes into the complete breakdown of Attachment-Based disorder DSM-5 V995.51 This is a diagnosis and is nothing new.
It is a combination from the FOUNDATIONS of PSYCHOLOGY ITSELF. These are the pillars of study in order to get your degrees in psychology of Bowlby, Minuchin, Beck, van der Kolk (attachment - family systems therapy - personality disorder pathology - complex trauma)

Dear Lindsey Childress-Beatty,
I am asking you to stop trying to defend the indefensible:
You & the APA (for decades) are aware of this pathology.
The APA ethics board is supposed to be holding psychologists to a level of standards of practice.
You are aware of the ethical standards.
You now have a choice: Do you continue, knowing what you are doing directly causes the suicide of children and parents, (Exactly described by the June 14th 2018 letter to President Donald Trump) defending child abuse & domestic violence or do you do the right thing?
Decades of psychological research have determined that it is in the best interest of the child and the family to keep families together. Families going through a divorce in family court in the United States are already under a tremendous amount of stress.1 Sudden and unexpected family separation, such as separating families in family court, can add to that stress, leading to emotional trauma in children.2 Research also suggests that the longer that parents and children are separated, the greater the reported symptoms of anxiety and depression are for children.3 Adverse childhood experiences, such as parent- 1 Chaudry, A. (2011).. child separation are important social determinants of mental disorders. For children, traumatic events can lead to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health disorders that can cause long lasting effects.4 Furthermore, family court policies, such as separating families without due process, can also adversely impact those parents who are already being abused with domestic violence. They can suffer from feelings of isolation, social exclusion, anger, and hopelessness, as well as fear for the future.
It has now been over 5 years since I have had time with my daughters. The last time I had time with my girls was with Dr. Kurt Michaels.
II would ask you do job like it is supposed to be done and protect these children parents, protect my children, because according to Kaiser Permanente & the CDC study of Adverse Childhood Trauma my children now are 12 times more likely to commit suicide and are already dealing with depression, anxiety, borderline personality, attachment disorder, cross generation coalition, and other disorders.
I would like to leave you with these last thoughts,
If you knew that your child was being psychologically abused & droning. You could see it as clear as day and are screaming from the mountain tops. You couldn’t get to your child because the organization that was supposed to be protecting your child, was doing everything in their power to prevent you from getting your child the proper help they needed. If your child drowned or was damaged for life, what would YOU do?
The unfortunate situation we have at hand is a complete lack of empathy from anyone at the APA. No matter what questions I propose, you will not answer them. Whatever attempts I have put forth; you and the APA will not change. You have proven this with every letter and attempt I have made to get questions answered. You have proven that your organization only cares for IDENTY POLITICS and protecting its own. If you had any remorse, empathy or kindness you would have at least commented on these questions, instead you cover it up.
I have quoted this before and will continue to quote the APA’s letter to President Donald Trump: “Based on empirical evidence and decades of experience, The APA is an organization that knowingly and intentionally kills children and parents” Dr. Jessica Daniel June 14th Letter from the APA.
Sincerely,
Kenneth R. Gottfried

June 14, 2018
President Donald Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20500
Dear President Trump:
On behalf of the American Psychological Association (APA), we are writing to express our deep concern and strong opposition to the Administration’s new policy of separating immigrant parents and children who are detained while crossing the border. We previously wrote to then Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly on April 5, 2017, about this matter. Based on empirical evidence of the psychological harm that children and parents experience when separated, we implore you to reconsider this policy and commit to the more humane practice of housing families together pending immigration proceedings to protect them from further trauma.
APA is the leading scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. Our membership includes researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants, and students. APA works to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people’s lives. We have 115,700 members and affiliates across the United States and in many other countries, many of whom serve immigrant youth and adults in a wide range of settings, including schools, community centers, hospitals and refugee resettlement centers.
The current policy calls for children to be removed from their parents and placed for an often indeterminate period of time in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Decades of psychological research have determined that it is in the best interest of the child and the family to keep families together. Families fleeing their homes to seek sanctuary in the United States are already under a tremendous amount of stress.[2] Sudden and unexpected family separation, such as separating families at the border, can add to that stress, leading to emotional trauma in children.[3] Research also suggests that the longer that parents and children are separated, the greater the reported symptoms of anxiety and depression are for children.[4] Adverse childhood experiences, such as parentchild separation, are important social determinants of mental disorders. For children, traumatic events can lead to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health disorders that can cause long lasting effects.[5] Furthermore, immigration policies, such as separating families at the border, can also adversely impact those immigrants who are already in the United States. They can suffer from feelings of stigmatization, social exclusion, anger, and hopelessness, as well as fear for the future.[6]
As a tragic example of the current policy’s serious potential for harm, a Honduran man who was separated from his wife and 3-year-old son after he crossed the border into Texas recently took his own life while detained in a holding cell, according to the Customs and Border Protection officials, public records, and media reports.[7] There are also reports of detained immigrants foregoing legitimate claims for asylum by pleading guilty to expedite the return of their separated children and reports of parents being deported while their children, including infants, remain in custody. These incidents serve to highlight the mental health crisis for many families caused by the Administration’s policy.
Given these considerations, a change in immigration policy regarding the detention of immigrant families at the border is desperately needed – from separating parents and children to housing them together and providing needed physical and mental health services. As psychologists, we have documented multiple harmful effects of parent-child separation on children’s emotional and psychological development and well-being and urge that the current policy of family separation be reversed. Should you have any questions regarding these comments, please contact Serena Dávila, J.D., with our Public Interest Directorate at [email protected] or 202-336-6061.

Furthermore YOU at the APA ethics office have completely disregarded these DIRECT questions and more, refusing to address ANYTHING brought up in the previous letters.
Your conditions for opening up a case under the Ethics Committee’s Rules and Procedures Part V, section 5. State exactly:
5. Evaluation of Complaints by Chair and Director
All complaints not closed by the Director under Section 4 of this part shall be reviewed by the Chair and the Director to determine whether cause for action by the Ethics Committee exists.
5.1 Cause for Action Defined. Cause for action shall exist when the respondent's alleged actions and/or omissions, if proved, would in the judgment of the decision maker constitute a breach of ethics. For purposes of determining whether cause for action exists, incredible, speculative, and/or internally inconsistent allegations may be disregarded.
So, according to your Chair and the Director:
5.2.1 Request for Supplementation of Complaint. If the information is not sufficient to determine whether a case should be opened, the Director may so inform the complainant, who will be given 30 days from receipt of the request to supplement the complaint. The Chair and Director may additionally, or in the alternative, commence a preliminary investigation under Subsection 5.3 of this part.

WITH EVERY BIT OF YOUR REFERENCED EMPIRICAL DATA ABOUT SEPERATION TRAUMA IN YOUR LETTER TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP.
IN THIS LETTER YOU HAVE ALSO STATED THAT SEPERATION TRAUMA CAUSED A HONDURAN MAN TO COMMIT SUICIDE PROVING YOU ARE WELL AWARE THIS TYPE OF SEPERATION TRAUMA CAUSES SUICIDE:
As a tragic example of the current policy’s serious potential for harm, a Honduran man who was separated from his wife and 3-year-old son after he crossed the border into Texas recently took his own life while detained in a holding cell, according to the Customs and Border Protection officials, public records, and media reports.6
YOU HAVE PROVEN AGAIN AND AGAIN THAT YOU ARE NOT AN ORGANAZATION FOR HEALTHY PARENTS AND CHILDREN BUT AND ORGANIZATION THAT THROUGH ABSOLUTE COMPLICITY THE APA, IT’S ETHICS OFFICE AND YOUR ACTIONS, ARE FOR LIFELONG PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE AND THE INCREASE FOR SUICIDE OF CHILDREN AND PARENTS.

IF YOU THINK FOR 1 SECOND I WILL LET ANOTHER CHILD OR PARENT GO THROUGH THIS HELL, WHERE THE APA’s AND YOUR ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FAILURE TO FOLLOW YOUR OWN SET OF ETHICS. YOUR REFUSAL AND COMPLICITY TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, WHERE YOU ADDRESSED IT TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP. IF YOU THINK FOR 1 GOD DAMN SECOND I WILL LET THESE PEOPLES SUICIDE AND THE TENS OF THOUSANDS BEFORE AND AFTER THIS LETTER DIE IN VEIN BECAUSE OF YOUR LACK OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE BASED IN THE STANDARD AND ESTABLISHED CONSTRUCTS OF PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGY: YOU ARE FUCKING MISTAKEN.
The APA’s ethics division: A membership organization to protect its members, kill children and parents.

Dear Stephany R. Brasfield JD, MS & The APA Ethic’s division,
It is now abundantly clear that the APA ethics department is involved in a cover up and/or lacks the level of professional competence to oversee psychologists regarding attachment-related pathology, child separation trauma, Psychological Child Abuse V995.51

The APA sent a letter to President Donald Trump regarding this very same issue with documented evidence that was: "Based on empirical evidence of the psychological harm that children and parents experience when separated, we implore you to reconsider this policy and commit to the more humane practice of housing families together pending immigration proceedings to protect them from further trauma."

Why should anyone heed your advice when you refuse to heed it yourself?
My letters faxed, dated May 23rd 2018 and June 13th have not been responded to.
Children and parents are becoming psychologically damaged; many for the rest of their lives, while many are committing suicide.
This is no longer a complicit issue but an APA scandal.
‘You advise the president to act to prevent the separation of immigrant parents from their children to prevent psychological harm to the children ...yet have ignored for decades the equal and worse harm inflicted on 11 million US children (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/301758263_Prevalence_of_parental_alienation_drawn_from_a_representative_poll) who have been separated from a loving parent by the actions of a narcissistic (borderline) parent using the child as a regulatory object in ‘parental alienation’ (https://drcraigchildressblog.com/2017/09/08/ab-pa-is-not-the-moon/). How is it acceptable for you to be concerned about a relatively small, extra border phenomenon and ignore the much larger one within the US’ borders? Why are you failing to ensure your members act ethically, according to your published code, and become knowledgeable and competent to assesses, diagnose treat ‘parental alienation’, child separation trauma, Psychological Child Abuse V995.51?
I now have 20,000 people, and WE will be once again, awaiting your response.

Here we are again due to no response from the APA's ethics department.
Faxed to the APA ethics department on June 13th, 2018 202-336-5997 Dear Stephany R. Brasfield JD, MS & The APA Ethic’s division, I am now extremely worried about the competency of you and the APA ethics office. It took 6+ months to reply to my complaint where I have verified documented evidence of ethics violations. 2.01, 9.01, 3.04 and 4.05 duty to report child abuse! My fax, dated May 23rd 2018 has not been responded to. My phone call June 6th asking your department to let me know if there was a reply to my letter was not replied to. My phone call today June 13th where I was told you had sent out a letter May 23rd (Not received) and no response to weather you would send out a copy leaves me petrified on how the APA ethics department can be run in this kind of way. I do not like to infer that the APA ethics department is involved in a Psychological Child Abuse V995.51 cover-up, which allows psychologists to practice out of their field, make diagnoses without assessments, refuse to report child abuse, no duty to protect and avoid harm. This pattern from the APA ethics department worries me to my core. Children and parents are becoming psychologically damaged; many for the rest of their lives, while many are committing suicide. This is not a game, please let me know when you intend to address these issues. I will be once again, awaiting your response. Kenneth Gottfried 1067 S. Hover St. unit E, PMB 178 Longmont CO, 80501 |

Dear Stephany R. Brasfield JD, MS & The APA Ethic’s division,
I received your response dated May 17th 2018.
This leads me to some very serious questions about the APA ethics committee.
Are you and/or the ethics committee certified in:
Working with attachment-related family pathology involving narcissistic and borderline personality pathology and do you know the knowledge base of professional psychology for:
Bowlby, Minuchin, Beck, Kernberg, Millon, Bowen, van der Kolk
The attachment system,
Personality disorder pathology,
Family systems therapy,
Complex trauma.
DSM-5 V995.51 Psychological Child Abuse.
This is exactly what we are talking about, or are you practicing out of your fields of expertise.
Please let me know all the ethics committee members that were involved in your APA decision.
Based on your letter, are you and/or the APA ethics committee stating on record that:
I apologize in advance, as your responses have truly been shocking and not addressed the questions presented.
I will be once again, awaiting your response.

Based on your letter, are you and/or the APA ethics committee stating on record that:
- Diagnosis without assessment is proper APA procedure.
- When a parent mentions Psychological Child Abuse the therapist should discontinue communication with that parent?.
- It is OK for Psychologist to practice out of their field of expertise? Section 2, competence 2.01
- It is OK for a Psychologist not to report Child Abuse? 4.05
- It is OK for a Psychologist that has seen a minor child to refuse to respond to that parent especially when that parent has brought up Psychological child abuse?
- It is no longer a Psychologist duty to protect 9.01 Bases for Assessments?
- Psychologists no longer have a duty to Avoiding Harm 3.04?
I apologize in advance, as your responses have truly been shocking and not addressed the questions presented.

Dear APA Ethic’s division & Stephany R. Brasfield JD, MS
I received your response dated May 10th & 11th 2018.
I have some questions: You letter stated that conditions were not met.
5.4 Determination of Cause for Action. If the Chair and Director agree that cause for action exists, they shall consider whether to open a formal case under Subsection 5.5, below. If the Chair and Director agree that cause for action does not exist, the matter shall be closed. If the Chair and Director disagree on whether or not there is cause for action by the Committee, the matter shall be reviewed by the Vice Chair, who will cast the deciding vote.
5.5 Decision to Open a Case. In any case in which the determination has been made that cause for action exists, the Chair and Director shall consider whether (a) there is a reasonable basis to believe the alleged violation cannot be proved by a preponderance of the evidence and (b) the allegations would constitute only minor or technical violations that would not warrant further action, have already been adequately addressed in another forum, or are likely to be corrected. If they agree that one or more of the conditions are met, the matter shall be closed. Otherwise, the matter shall be opened as a case.
If you can answer some questions I would appreciate your response:
1). Does the APA state that a diagnosis can be given without an assessment?
2). Psychological Child Abuse DSM-5 V995.52 and has a press release from 2014 http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2014/10/psychological-abuse.aspx Please let me know when you changed your ethics violations as not to include this as child abuse.
3). It is OK for Psychologist to practice out of their field of expertise? Section 2, competence 2.01 Please let me know when you changed your ethics violations as not to include this violation.
4). It is OK for a Psychologist not to report Child Abuse? 4.05 Please let me know when you changed your ethics violations as not to include this violation.
5). It is OK for a Psychologist that has seen a minor child to refuse to respond to that parent especially when that parent has brought up Psychological child abuse?
6). When is it no longer a Psychologist duty to protect 9.01 Bases for Assessments?
7). When is it no longer a Psychologists duty to 3.04 Avoiding Harm?
To me these are not minor infractions as you stated in your letter from May 11th, 2018.
I have not had communication with my 2 daughters in 4.5 years. They went from megellibeka.com to stating they wished I was dead in a court room. Cutting off all contact (Phone, Mail, Social, everything with no response). Is the APA stating this is normal?
I will be awaiting your response.
